The perfect barbecue picnic

Use summer's essential ingredients to pack a basket-worthy meal

Grilled Fruit Kebabs with Chocolate Dipping Sauce

Ingredients:


4 10-inch wooden skewers
2 tbsp fresh orange juice
1 tsp maple syrup
4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped
5 oz whipping cream
12 medium strawberries
2 to 3 nectarines or peaches, sliced into 8 wedges
8 large pineapple chunks


Cooking Instructions:

Presoak wooden skewers in water for 20 to 30 minutes. Meanwhile, grease barbecue grill and pre-heat to medium-high. Stir together fresh orange juice and maple syrup in a small bowl until combined; reserve.

Melt semi-sweet chocolate pieces with whipping cream in a small pan over low heat, stirring constantly to avoid burning. Remove pan from heat, transfer mixture to a small bowl and then cover tightly with foil in order to keep sauce warm.

Thread wet skewers with fruit, alternating with strawberries, nectarine and pineapple pieces. Brush fruit lightly with orange juice and maple syrup mixture and place on grill. Grill fruit for 1 to 2 minutes per side, or until fruit is warm and lightly marked. Serve fruit on a plate surrounded with chocolate sauce.
